Understand how to use a map and the basics of navigation but never really used a compass before? - then this is the day for you.
These days are designed for people who want to learn the basics of using a compass.
Using a compass to orientate the map, to take and follow bearings from the map and from the ground and to help you relocate. Planning a walk using these skills and safety on the hills.
This day is one of a series including Getting Started with Navigation for those who have not used a map before and Walking with a GPS for those who want to know more about using a GPS
The day will start with us meeting up at the Penyghent Cafe in Horton-in-Ribblesdale. We will have a quick chat about the day, recap on some basic map reading and then look at the use of a compass. Then it will be time to go and learn how to use a compass in a very practical way on a walk in an area close by. We will return to the cafe at the end of the day for a debrief and possibley some cake!
Develop your compass skills while in a beautiful area of the Yorkshire Dales.
Meet at Penyghent Cafe. Detailed directions on booking
