A full day guided walk for up to 8 people in the Derwent Valley & Hills with a Personal Walking Guide.Start at Matlock onto limestone tors through Riber and High Peak Junction, Cromford Mill, Masson Mill and the River Derwent. An easy going guided walk.
Walk in the beautiful hills surrounding the Derwent Valley in the magnificent Derbyshire Dales. This walk is for up to 8 people with your own personal walking guide who will share with you a wealth of knowledge about the local history, folklore, geology, and plantlife.
You can book this walk on your own, as a couple, or as a group of up to 8 people. The cost is the same regardless. The cost per person can therefore work out at as little as £15 each.
During the walk you will explore the beauty and industrial heritage of this historic area. Your guide will take you high above the town of Matlock onto limestone tors with stunning views into the valley below. You will pass through the village of Riber with its hilltop castle, then walk through fields and along country paths into the valley and to High Peak Junction, once an important transport interchange but now a tranquil place to relax. After walking along the canal side you will visit Cromford Mill, part of the Derwent Valley World Heritage Site then past the imposing Masson Mill on the side of the River Derwent. From here it is up the hillside again on paths and lanes for more stunning views before descending back into Matlock.
This is a hilly walk of about 10 miles/16km and approx. 500 metres of ascent.
No prior experience is necessary although you need to be fit enough to walk up hills carrying your rucksack and all of its contents. You also need to be able to climb over stiles.
Meet at the entrance to the railway station in the town of Matlock (Please note it is Matlock, not Matlock Bath). The post code is DE4 3NA. There is a large 'pay & display' car park a short distance away
