Learn to navigate and map read in Marsden Moor Estate, South Pennines . This basic navigation course will go over hill walking and compass skills for all how to navigate in the wilderness. The course covers how to plan your own walks, understand an OS map, use a compass, stay safe in the outdoors as well as many more essential outdoors skills, instructed by Mark Reid, author of 17 walking guidebooks.

This course will give you the fundamental skills you need to plan and follow your own walks in the countryside, with an emphasis on map and compass skills. The course is practically based, with a full day's training within a small group. Your instructor is Mark Reid, an experienced Mountain Leader, Guidebook Writer and Outdoor Instructor.
You will learn how to plan your own walks, understand an OS map, use a compass, stay safe in the outdoors as well as many more essential outdoors skills
YOUR INSTRUCTOR
Mark Reid is the author of 17 walking guidebooks including 'The Inn Way' series. He is a fully qualified and highly experienced Walking Group Leader and Mountain Leader and has an unrivalled knowledge of the history and geography of the North of England, particularly the Yorkshire Dales and Lake District. Mark Reid has walked over 10,000 miles of footpaths throughout England over the last decade. Mark also appears on ITV YORKSHIRE on the monthly TV walks series 'A Breath of Fresh Air' along with ITV weatherman Jon Mitchell, and was recently featured on ITV1's 'The Dales'.
The day will begin at 9am with a complimentary tea/coffee at the British Waterways Visitor Centre at Tunnel End, near Marsden whilst we discuss the day ahead. We will then head out for a day's navigation training around the Marsden Moor Estate in the South Pennines (National Trust land), finishing back at the Visitor Centre at around 5pm.
No experience required. Suitable for all abilities.
