Learn to canoe or kayak in the Lake District on Wild Cat Island on this unique kayaking day. With geocaching and a rock jump in Coniston Water this is a great day out for all the family!
Made famous by Arthur Ransome, Wild Cat Island is legendary. This trip takes you on an adventure to a small island towards the south end of Coniston Water. Whether or not you have read the book or seen the film, this is perfect for families who want a real adventure. You will paddle your canoe or kayak across to the island where you can land at the secret harbour. From there you can explore the island.
If the weather is clear you will enjoy beautiful views towards the north end of the lake. You can take your boat around the island, or if you are feeling brave, do the rock jump into the lake. There's even buried treasure to be found in the shape of a Geo Cache. Find the Cache and leave a message for others who follow.
Meeting at the car park by the lake shore you will be briefed by your instructor and get ready for you adventure. Boats, clothing and all essential equipment sorted, you will begin your paddle to Wild Cat. This is just under a kilometer from the start and you may be in canoe or kayak depending on conditions.
You will probably land at "The Secret Harbour" and disembark to explore the island and see where John, Susan, Titty and The Boy Roger set up their tents and played pirates. You may be able to enjoy beautiful views towards the north end of the lake, or if you are feeling brave, do the rock jump into the lake.
Having explored the island, jumped from the jump, and left no stone unturned looking for treasure you will make the return trip to the shore. With photos to remind you this is a trip you will remember.

All technical equipment including wetsuits are provided. You should make sure that you have spare underclothing or swimwear and a change or socks and a towel. Suitable footwear such as trainers, wellies or watersports shoes will also be needed.
Children under 10 years must be accompanied by and adult and may travel in canoe with the instructor or other family members. Parents are asked to consider the boldness of any pirates under the age of 7 before committing to the trip.
