When climbing isn’t what you need, a day of gorge walking in The Lake District is ideal. Also known as ghyll scrambling, prepare to traverse rivers and the lakes of The Lakes in this fun outdoor activity -great for adults and for kids too!
It is a great way to spend a fun afternoon in the Lake District, as you walk up a narrow gorge with beautiful clear pools of water, surrounded by the Mountains. If you want fun without too much adrenaline pumping or have younger kids this is a great activity. For those that want something slightly more challenging then Ghyll Scrambling is for you. Gorge walking takes you to some fantastic areas of the Lake District and allows you to see places you might not see otherwise. Compared to Ghyll Scrambling it is less intense and you are more likely to stay drier on this activity. We run Gorge Walking trips year round – unless they are frozen over! They are ideal for younger children (6yrs ) as the emphasis is on walking up a mountain stream with fun challenges en-route rather than rock scrambling and jumping into pools of deep water. Although, there is always the chance to get soaking wet if you are finding the experience too dry and warm!!
We meet you 15 minutes before the activity to get kitted up. We will provide a buoyancy aid and helmet for the session. Once everyone is dressed in warm clothes, waterproofs, buoyancy aid and helmet we set off into the gorge which will take anywhere between 1 – 2 hrs.
